1. I assigned less written essays. 2. I read them all. 3. It took my Thanksgiving, Christmas , and Spring break to read about 5-10 a day.
Finally, if the paper was below standard of a C- then they received a 0 / rewrite. That meant it had to be redone or they failed the class.
I had a board of papers posted that they could look to for understanding what I expected.
I lasted 32 years. Only 3 papers a year but I was ON IT.

FINALLY. (Really) You are teaching them something far more important and valuable—- you are teaching them to think. To research. To support their argument with reasoning, data or opinions from experts.
The writing is the manifestation of thinking. Once AI thinks for the kids then — GAME OVER.
They will never learn to THINK FOR Themselves.
