As you said, Maryam, parents make the child. And yours were excellent. Mine were loving, but not political or even educated — but they sent me to a good school, I had a great debate coach as a mentor and I just did what all parents hope for their children, as Scott Peck explained — I evolved past my folks. So if parents are paying attention and I think the majority (70%) are, then kids turn out pretty good. Notice how kids are up in arms on climate and on Black Lives Matter. Of course, ignorance and misinformation is dangerous. I wanted to add that when teaching TKM I also spoke to the kids about the white man who pretended to be drunk whose wife was black and shot herself with a shotgun — that was a devastating example of racism’s cruelty — to think she hated herself for her skin color and he had to pretend to be a drunk just to remain ‘acceptable’ to the white townspeople — it mattered not that he was an drunk, just that he still hated blacks.
