Exactly. Here is a tip from an old school high school teacher--it's a way to beat A I--
Pencil out your favorite season--say it's autumn. that's your thesis. Then pencil out three reasons (opinions) for example: 1. you love Thanksgiving; 2. you love the leaves turning.3. you love the fall sports seasons.(all opinions) DO THIS THINKING ON A WHITEBOARD WITH THE KIDS SO THEY SEE YOU) Then pencil out three (or two facts about each reason. For example on Thanksgiving would be family comes over (that's a fact) and the food of Thanksgiving turkey etc are prepared.
The same for the other two reasons ( leaves turning and fall sports). Go back to Thanksgiving (here is the critical thinking part) have them create two sentences for each fact that explains why that fact is so important. For example, Fact is family comes over--> your cousins are your age and they play video games with you that you love secondly, your Uncle Louie always loves to play Scrabble with you when he comes over. DO THIS FOR THE OTHER TWO REASONS (leaves turning and sports). In this way, you have created an outline that is personal to YOU and not A I...and it is critical thinking at its best. You can change the topic from favorite season to some other issue like "You believe global warming is an existential threat to the planet. Let me know if you need more ideas or if you have questions.
