Katharine: I agree itis a game for the R party--fear is the only "idea/ program they offer. Fear these poor people. Yes,there are homeless people ion AMerica--itis a travesty. However the homeless problem and the immigration problem are not mutually exclusive. We can solve both. The R party has no intention of spending money on either. They believe government is not the answer and should be blown up. They view the homeless as pathetic--unless they are ex-military; even then getting them to fund programs is like twisting their arms. The 'illegals' (as they call them ) areviewed as less than human by these R politicians. They just want to ship them off to D cities without any preparation of even a glimmerof securuty. They throw them against a wall and sneer at the "lefty" mayors. There is no nobility in thisparty of Republicans. It was not always this way--but the Trump admin. has had a toxic affect. I will be writing a solution to Medium soon. It'snot rocket science but it does mean Americans have to realign their values.

One more thing--the comment by another writer about the drugs we inhale that funds the violent cartels is spot on. Before we can attack the problem we need to face who exactly are responsible for the drug kingdom.
