Kim--Thanks of the thoughtful reply to my viewpoint. Thanks of the thoughtful reply to my viewpoint. I suppose being in the Netherlands makes for quite a different world view. My wife and I recently toured Germany, Austria and the Swiss Alps and we learned of the different views the Germans have from the Austrians about history, specifically the views of Nazism. Here in California, we live in a progressive state but we see Trump stoking the fires of racism, exclusion and nationalism and we are sad that the world thinks us to be the Ugly American once again. This is despite the best efforts of a heroic Obama administration. So I suppose I try to be polite to people that are in the Fox News/ Hannity/ Trump vortex--but polite is as far as I can go. I'm not even sure I could associate with those folks more than a hello and a goodbye. As for changing their minds, history will record, eventually, that these folks will be ridiculed--and if history plays out that I am wrong and that nationalism and selfish, boorish behavior along with a continuation of systematic racism becomes life on what is left of this planet--well, then we are all doomed--and Mother Nature will take care of the rest.
