Like much of the laws and court cases that we’re supposed to have impacted black lives in a positive way, progress moves slowly toward justice, as Dr King said. And with regard to Affirmative Action, that progress has come to a halt. Colleges will and have created work arounds to improve student diversity. But corporate culture may not be so accommodating.
Your story is interesting bc 1. You were in Minnesota which was progressive by comparison to the Deep South. 2. You were a standout student and test taker. (We are the same age and National Merit Scholar is something very special to our generation. So it is clear you earned and deserved all that has come to you.
As a 32 year veteran public school teacher in California, I see how much Affirmative Action has impacted brown and black kids who deserved a shot ( and have not the financial resources).
