Not to be too critical, but I am not sure the plan backfired. The Reagan ‘government is the problem’ and the ‘choke government’ to nothing ‘pledge’ with Newt are still the Republicans life blood. They just didn’t expect that Trump would be so crazy as to take it literally ( aka Jan 6)
